Thursday Book Trailer…Sense and Sensibilities and Sea Monsters

Last week I shared the book trailer to Seth Grahame-Smith's Abraham Lincoln's: Vampire Hunter, this week I found Amazon's 2009 Best Book Trailer - Sense and Sensibilities and Sea Monsters by Jane Austen & Ben Winters. Enjoy!

Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters

Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters expands the original text of the beloved Jane Austen novel with all-new scenes of giant lobsters, rampaging octopi, two-headed sea serpents, and other biological monstrosities. As our story opens, the Dashwood sisters are evicted from their childhood home and sent to live on a mysterious island full of savage creatures and dark secrets. While sensible Elinor falls in love with Edward Ferrars, her romantic sister Marianne is courted by both the handsome Willoughby and the hideous man-monster Colonel Brandon. Can the Dashwood sisters triumph over meddlesome matriarchs and unscrupulous rogues to find true love? Or will they fall prey to the tentacles that are forever snapping at their heels? This masterful portrait of Regency England blends Jane Austen’s biting social commentary with ultraviolent depictions of sea monsters biting. It’s survival of the fittest—and only the swiftest swimmers will find true love! - FROM AMAZON.COM

To Conquer Mr. Darcy, Abigail Reynolds – Review

PhotobucketWhat if...

Instead of disappearing from Elizabeth Bennet's life after she refused his offer of marriage, Mr. Darcy had stayed and tried to change her mind?

What if...

Lizzy, as she gets to know Darcy, finds him undeniably attractive and her impulses win out over her sense of propriety?

What if...

Madly in love and mutually on fire, their passion anticipates their wedding?

In To Conquer Mr. Darcy, instead of avoiding Elizabeth after his ill-fated marriage proposal, Mr. Darcy follows her back to Hertfordshire to prove to her he is a changed man and worthy of her love. And little by little, Elizabeth begins to find the man she thought she despised, irresistible... - FROM AMAZON

ABOUT THE AUTHOR...Abigail Reynolds  is a lifelong Jane Austen enthusiast and a physician.  In addition to writing, she has a part-time private practice and  enjoys spending time with her family.  Originally from upstate New York, she studied Russian, theater, and marine biology before deciding to attend medical school.   She began writing From Lambton to Longbourn in 2001 to spend more time with her favorite characters from Pride & Prejudice.  Encouragement from fellow Austen fans convinced her to continue asking ‘What if…?’, which led to four other Pemberley Variations and her modern novel, Pemberley by the Sea.  She is currently at work on another Pemberley Variation and a sequel to Pemberley by the Sea.  She lives in Wisconsin with her husband, two teenaged children, and a menagerie of pets. - FROM AUTHOR SITE

FROM THE BOOK FAERY REVIEWS...I have to be honest, I just couldn't get past the first couple of chapters. I'd try to read, then would put it down, tried to pick it up again, then would put it down. It was rather an annoying cycle. I just couldn't get into this read. Is there a reason I couldn't get into it? I'm not quite sure. I did find the "new" Mr. Darcy a bit annoying as he went after Elizabeth and tried apologizing for his behavior (at least that's what I got from what I did read). He seemed to act like the lost puppy to me. Perhaps because I like the mysterious "bad boy" on the outside, softy on the inside when you get to know him. Am I saying the book was bad? Absolutely not! I just couldn't get through the first part of the book. Someone else might enjoy this adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice.

I DID however, enjoy her other book The Man Who Loved Pride & Prejudice which you can read more about here.

I received a copy of this book for review from SourceBooks.

He'd always been driven by the fear that a mistress might tempt him to let down his guard and reveal his secrets.

Hero, Cheryl Brooks – Review

PhotobucketHE IS THE SEXIEST, MOST IRKSOME MAN SHE'S EVER ENCOUNTERED...

Micayla is the last Zetithian female left in the universe. She doesn't know what's normal for her species, but she knows when she sees Trag that all she wants to do is bite him...

HE HAS SEARCHED ALL OVER THE GALAZY FOR A WOMAN LIKE HER...

Trag has sworn he'll never marry unless he can find a Zetithian female. But now that he's finally found Micayla, she may be more of a challenge than even he's able to take on... - FROM THE BOOK BACK

ABOUT THE AUTHOR...A native of Louisville, KY, Cheryl Brooks graduated from the Kentucky Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and then went on to earn a BSN from Indiana University. Horse crazy from the time she knew what a horse was, her family moved to rural Indiana in 1989. Since then, she's managed to accumulate four horses and five cats. She's been working full-time as a critical care nurse for more than thirty years which can be exciting, but she's itching for a different kind of excitement!

As a writer, she finds that any fantasy you have can come true if you just write it down! She's been keeping her friends entertained with her books for a number of years, and self-published a book in 2006, but Slave is the first of her books to be published with Sourcebooks Casablanca.

Her other interests include cooking, gardening, singing and guitar playing. I'm really hurt that The Eagles got back together without me! - ALTERED SLIGHTLY FROM CHERYL BROOKS' AUTHOR PAGE

Find Cheryl at her website, blog where she posts some yummy pictures (NOT for anyone under 18...NUDE photos!), and you can even find her on Facebook (Cheryl Brooks).

FROM THE BOOK FAERY REVIEWS...Hero is the last installment in Brooks' series The Cat Star Chronicles. All 6 could easily be read separate from  the previous books but all the more fun when all read. At #6 she definitely had me hating to see the end. Now I want to know what will happen with the Zetithian race! Who wouldn't purr with delight (and heat) from this one? I know I did! Best of all she ended with a strong and independent female! Of the books I've read in the series, this one and Fugitive had to be my favorites.

You can see my previous reviews and interview with Cheryl Brooks at:

NOTE...this is a VERY erotic fantasy book. Not for those who get squeamish when it comes to a very passionate "romp".

UPDATE...Cheryl just informed me there are 3 more to come in the series!! YIPPEE!!

Virgin is the next one which will be out Spring 2011. YES!

Sourcebooks provided me a copy of this book for review.

Mailbox Monday…08.02.10

Booksfree
Mailbox Monday is where other bloggers write about the books they received the previous week. The Printed Page is the host of the Mailbox Monday meme. Visit her blog to see what books made it her way and get a chance to get one of her books once she's done reading it. You can also see who all is participating this week and read about all kinds of new books.

**It's been some time since I last posted (7/12 to be exact) so I thought I'd do a bit of catch up as well as share some of the books I've picked up from others or purchased myself. You'd think with all the books I receive for free I'd keep myself from buying more books (or so my husband would hope) but on occasion I just can't help myself! This list is lengthier than usual so this round there won't be summaries but I did include links for more book information.**

The Wild Irish Sea, Loucinda McGary – Review

PhotobucketDrawn to a force he can't resist...
Former police officer Kevin Hennessey is running from his past-choosing to battle smugglers instead of dealing with his personal demons. When a desperate, rain-drenched American woman appears on his doorstep with wild tales of danger, Kevin is drawn to helping her, despite his reservations...

She never saw him coming...
Amber O'Neill knew without a doubt that her brother was in mortal danger. Rushing heedlessly to the rocky shores of Ireland, Amber was stunned to find her rescue mission derailed by a gorgeous, but deeply flawed Irishman...

The tumultuous sea, the intertwined fates of the coastal villagers, and unearthly tales of a hidden selkie prince bring Kevin and Amber together in a connection of mind, body, and soul that neither can deny...

FROM THE BOOK FAERY REVIEWS...Reading the book back had my interest peaked in hopes of a good magical love story. But to be honest I found my interest going up and down throughout the book. It took me longer than I had hoped to read because of this. I didn't find telepathy to be that magical and the story entwined with seals that walked around as humans was just that. I expected a seal to actually magically turn into a human and had hoped that some of the main characters were indeed theses "selkies". The danger plot of smugglers had me somewhat interested but then I felt the chase and danger wasn't as adventurous as I expected. This book might peak the interest longer in another reader but for me it's not one I'd read again. The Wild Irish Sea was an ok book in my mind if looking for a love/danger book to read.

This book was provided to me for review from Sourcebooks.

The Fire Lord’s Lover, Kathryne Kennedy – Review

PhotobucketIf his powers are discovered, his father will destroy him...

In a magical land ruled by ruthless Elven lords, the Fire Lord's son Dominic Raikes plays a deadly game to conceal his growing might from his malevolent father-until his arranged bride awakens in him passions he thought he had buried forever...

Unless his fiancée kills him first...

Lady Cassandra has been raised in outward purity and innocence, while secretly being trained as an assassin. Her mission is to bring down the Elven Lord and his champion son. But when she gets to court she discovers that nothing is what it seems, least of all the man she married...

Then Dominic and Cassandra together uncover an unspeakable evil, one that threatens the destruction of the magical realm they would give their souls to save... - FROM AMAZON

ABOUT THE AUTHOR...Kathryne Kenedy is a multipublished, award-winning author of magical romances. She's lived in Guam, Okinawa, and several states in the U.S., and currently lives in Arizona with her wonderful family—which includes two very tiny Chihuahuas. She welcomes readers to visit her website where she has ongoing contests at: KathryneKennedy.com.

FROM THE BOOK FAERY REVIEWS...Kathryne Kennedy had me enchanted with her half human, half elf fire lord. Oh my! He could definitely keep me ablaze anytime (if only he were real)! Truly an enchanting love story with lots of fire (pun intended in all purposes!) and action. The mysterious hero who's heart finally blazes with passion and love for another who's just as heroic. The heroine is not your prissy gal but an independent and determined woman. LOVED it! If only it could be in hardback with silver gilded pages it would sit on my shelves forever for later re-reads.

One Dance with a Duke, Tessa Dare – Review

PhotobucketIn One Dance with a Duke—the first novel in Tessa Dare’s delightful new trilogy—secrets and scandals tempt the irresistible rogues of the Stud Club to gamble everything for love.

A handsome and reclusive horse breeder, Spencer Dumarque, the fourth Duke of Morland, is a member of the exclusive Stud Club, an organization so select it has only ten members—yet membership is attainable to anyone with luck. And Spencer has plenty of it, along with an obsession with a prize horse, a dark secret, and, now, a reputation as the dashing “Duke of Midnight.” Each evening he selects one lady for a breathtaking midnight waltz. But none of the women catch his interest, and nobody ever bests the duke—until Lady Amelia d’Orsay tries her luck.

In a moment of desperation, the unconventional beauty claims the duke’s dance and unwittingly steals his heart. When Amelia demands that Spencer forgive her scapegrace brother’s debts, she never imagines that her game of wits and words will lead to breathless passion and a steamy proposal. Still, Spencer is a man of mystery, perhaps connected to the shocking murder of the Stud Club’s founder. Will Amelia lose her heart in this reckless wager or win everlasting love? - AMAZON.COM

ABOUT THE AUTHOR...Tessa Dare is a part-time librarian, full-time mommy and swing-shift writer living in Southern California.

Tessa lived a rather nomadic childhood in the Midwest. As a girl, she discovered that no matter how many times she moved, two kinds of friends traveled with her: the friends in books, and the friends in her head. She still converses with both sets daily.

Tessa writes fresh and flirty historical romance, a blog, and the stray magazine article. To the chagrin of her family, Tessa does not write grocery lists, Christmas cards, or timely checks to utility companies. She shares a tiny bungalow with her husband, their two children, a dog, and many dust bunnies.

Tessa enjoys a good book, a good laugh, a good long walk in the woods, a good movie, a good meal, a glass of good wine, and the company of good people.

FIND TESSA AT... Her website, on Facebook, on Twitter, blogging in her diary, and on Myspace.

FROM THE BOOK FAERY REVIEWS...A novel filled with secrets, passion, and a mystery. The "Duke of Midnight" is one Duke I'd love to come across at the stroke of midnight. He's breathtaking, mysterious, and passionate. Characters from different backgrounds come together and had me turning page after page wondering what was going to happen next. I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest in the trilogy.

And the best I save for last...her fun book video introducing the trilogy! Now this is a style I've not yet seen...

The Making of a Duchess, Shana Galen – Review

Photobucket A very dangerous attraction...
Julien Harcourt, duc de Valère, is more than willing to marry the lovely young lady his mother has chosen. Little does he know, she's been sent to prove him a spy and a traitor.

And an even more dangerous secret...
Sarah Smith's mission is to find out whether the duc's trips to the Continent are as innocent as he claims, but the way he looks at her is far from innocent...

Their risky game of cat and mouse propels them from the ballrooms of London to the prisons of Paris, and into a fragile love that may not survive their deceptions...

The first in a trilogy of three brothers struggling to reconnect and restore their noble heritage in the aftermath of the French Revolution, each losing his heart along the way.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR...Shana Galen is the author of five Regency historicals, including the Rita-nominated Blackthorne's Bride. Her books have been sold in Brazil, Russia, and the Netherlands and featured in the Rhapsody and Doubleday Book Clubs. She taught English at the middle and high school level off and on for eleven years. Most of those years were spent working in Houston's inner city.

Now she writes full time. She's happily married to an incredibly supportive man she likes to call Ultimate Sportsfan, and she have a beautiful daughter and two spoiled cats.

FROM THE BOOK FAERY REVIEWS...In the blink of an eye we watch the orphan girl turned governess turn into spy and into a real Duchess. LOVED it! Enjoyed the cat and mouse play between Julian and Sarah - because we all know that the predictable is always so boring. Passion is much more fun to watch when there's some play involved. I now look forward to reading Galen's 2nd book in the brother trilogy called The Making of a Gentlemen.

Bitter Frost, Kailin Gow – Review

PhotobucketAll her life, Breena had always dreamed about fairies as though she lived among them...beautiful fairies living among mortals and living in Feyland. In her dreams, he was always there the breathtakingly handsome but dangerous Winter Prince, Kian, who is her intended. When Breena turns sixteen, she begins seeing fairies and other creatures mortals don t see. Her best friend Logan, suddenly acts very protective. Then she sees Kian, who seems intent on finding her and carrying her off to Feyland. That's fine and all, but for the fact that humans rarely survive a trip to Feyland, a kiss from a fairy generally means death to the human unless that human has fairy blood in them or is very strong, and although Kian seemed to be her intended, he seems to hate her and wants her dead. - FROM THE BOOK BACK

ABOUT THE AUTHOR...Kailin Gow is the multi-published Author of The Shy Girls Social Club Handbook for Dealing with Bullies and Other Meanies and 30 more books for teens and young adults, including The Gifted Girls Series which have been recommended by the Parents Teachers Association, PBS Kids, Homeschooling organizations, and Best Teens Books lists. Her fiction titles for older young adults and adults are: Diary of a Discount Donna (A Fashion Fables Novel), and the newly released The Phantom Diaries and Rise of the Fire Tamer (Wordwick Games Book 1). She holds a Masters Degree Communications Management from USC, and Bachelors Degrees in Drama and Social Ecology from UC Irvine. She is a mother, a mentor for young women, and the founder of the social group for girls age 13 to 19 called Shy Girls Social Club at shygirlssocialclub.com.

FROM THE BOOK FAERY REVIEWS...Bitter Frost is the first in Gow's latest young adult Fey series. We're introduced to goblins, pixies, werewolves, and fairies. Breena is a shy girl who's constantly picked on by her schoolmates except by her best friend Logan who she later learns is a werewolf. We meet Kian, the Fairy Prince who's come to kidnap her and take her to the Winter Kingdom and the queen, his mom. She learns she is part fairy and princess of the Summer Kingdom; the reason why she always felt more at home in her fairy dreams than in the human world. Things don't turn out well and Breena ends up in the Summer Kingdom, where her father is king. She's arrested and taken to the Queen where she learns some of the reason why she was banned from Feyland. I enjoyed Bitter Frost. The descriptions of the the goblins, pixies, fairies, werewolves, and the different lands were amazing and gave me a clear picture. The book is filled with action and I nearly cried when the book ended before we could meet her father and find out what happened to her human mother. Thankfully we get to continue Breena, Kian, and Logan's story in the next book Forever Frost (September 2010).

MY LAST THOUGHT...I think it's time we get a new movie genre out...move over vamps! Love you guys but I'm ready for some Fey action!

I received a copy of this book for review. Receiving a copy in no way altered my opinion of the book.
