Secret Lives is a big novel about big issues—aging and death, the way our society treats its senior citizens, women’s friendships, the powers of love, the theory and practice of magic, the rebirth of the Goddess and Her ancient religion. It’s about the untidy mysteries of human life. As the baby boom generation ages, the issues in Secret Lives become more significant to readers and also more recognizable. Issues that used to matter only to their parents are now starting to pop up in the boomers’ own lives.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR…Barbara Ardinger, Ph.D. (www.barbaraardinger.com), is the author of Secret Lives, a novel about crones and other magical folks, and Pagan Every Day: Finding the Extraordinary in Our Ordinary Lives, a unique daybook of daily meditations, stories, and activities. Her earlier books include Goddess Meditations, Finding New Goddesses (a parody of goddess encyclopedias), and Quicksilver Moon (a realistic novel … except for the vampire). Her day job is freelance editing for people who have good ideas but don’t want to embarrass themselves in print. To date, she has edited more than 250 books, both fiction and nonfiction, on a wide range of topics. Barbara lives in southern California.
FROM THE BOOK FAERY REVIEWS…This is a HUGE book (650 pages), HOWEVER, it’s a book that could be read in chunks here and there because it’s filled with 26 short stories. The stories are separate yet they all weave together in a common way because it follows the women of the Circle of Crones. You might characters in more than one story mentioned as well but again, the chapters can still be read separately. Ardinger created wonderful characters that you’ll remember ( and maybe even relate to) after the pages are closed and the book is put away.  For those not too familiar with Paganism, Wicca, Circles, and the Goddess ways (and more), I found it very interesting to learn about through the stories of the women in relation to their society.
I think this book will definitely attract those who read Pagan fiction and those interested in women fiction as well.
My book Rating: ★★★☆
I received a copy of the book for an honest review as part of the Pump Up Your Book Promotion book tour with Barbara Ardinger. No money was received for compensation and all opinions above are my own.
