Barbara Ardinger has written eight novels and is currently on book tour with Secret Lives. We asked if she felt that her writing and storytelling have improved with each book she wrote and whether she’s always know she wanted to be an author one day.
I have written six nonfiction books about feminist spirituality. Two of them, published by New World Library, are being converted to Kindle right now—A Woman’s Book of Rituals & Celebrations and Practicing the Presence of the Goddess. Goddess Meditations is out of print but used copies are available on Amazon.com. Pagan Every Day is a daybook of little essays on many topics, including pagan festivals, Christian saints, festivals of other religions, and interesting events. It’s in this book that I declare Miss Piggy to be the Goddess of Everything.
My first published novel is Quicksilver Moon, which is set in Orange Co., CA, in 1999 and is realistic … except for the vampire. The Quicksilver Moon coven is attacked by an extremist preacher, and the Goddess-worshipping vampire helps them defend themselves.
Yes, my writing has improved over the years. I think I started writing in the fifth grade, when I wrote a puppet show version of “The Littlest Angel.” In high school, I was the only member of the creative writing club who had something to read at every single meeting. When I started college, I was a good enough writer that I was selected by my freshman comp teacher to work on the yearbook. That teacher and I are still friends. (You can see a photo of us on my website, www.barbaraardinger.com.) I kept writing, of course, in graduate school. If I were to stack up all my term papers from my M.A. and Ph.D. studies, the stack would be as tall as I am.
What does this mean? I’ve had a lot of writing practice! I’ve also been writing magazine articles and book reviews for 20 years of so. My day job is editing for beginning authors who don’t want to embarrass themselves in print. I help them with gooder English. Because I am a good writer, I can better help my authors.
For more on my background, see my website, www.barbaraardinger.com. The FREE READER’S GUIDE for Secret Lives is also there on my site. It will give you lots of information about Secret Lives. It’s like a commentary track on a DVD.
Let me know if you have more questions. Many thanks!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR…I am the author of eight published books of women’s spirituality, plus innumerable book reviews. I am also a freelance book editor for smart people who do not, alas, have strong writing skills and don’t want to embarrass themselves in print. I’ve edited about 250 books. I live with two Maine coon cats named Schroedinger and Heisenberg, I’m a member of the Michael Ball Fan Club, and just about my favorite activity in the whole world is going to the theater, especially musicals. See my website, www.barbaraardinger.com for my monthly blog, excerpts from my books, the FREE READER’S GUIDE to Secret Lives, and my opinions on many things.
