Sunday Salon 10.18.09
Seriously this month is just flying by and we're definitely falling into the true Autumn spirit with Mother Nature whispering to us within the chilly winds. Leaves are turning, days are seeming to get shorter (sleep is finally coming sooner for the kids), crock pot and soup recipes are on my brain, and darker novels are a literary desire here on the home front.
The kids and I are enjoying The Garden of Eve by K.L. Going each night as I read 3 chapters at a time. We all huddle on the couch together sharing an old quilt I've had since I was a toddler. The engrossed look in their faces is enough to fascinate me as I read them the story; even the 3 year old looks forward to hearing the next set of chapters.
W hen Evie reluctantly moves with her father to upstate New York, where he has bought an apple orchard, they dismiss rumors that the trees haven't borne fruit in decades because the town is cursed. After all, Evie doesn't believe in things like curses or fairy tales anymore. If fairy tales were real, her mom would still be alive. But then Evie receives a mysterious seed as an eleventh-birthday gift and meets a boy who claims to be dead. When planted, the seed grows into a tree before their eyes, but only Evie and the boy can see it - or go where it leads.
The Garden of Eve mixes eerie magical realism with a deeply resonating story that beautifully explores grief, healing, and growth. - FROM THE BOOK BACK

Earlier this week I finished Thunder and Blood by Stacey Voss and now reading A Note from an Old Acquaintance by Bill Walker. Next to read is something dark to suit the spirit of Halloween which is coming soon. If you have a suggestion of the perfect book that will send me chillsĀ as I read, let me know!

About The Book Faery
Farrah is from the Raleigh, North Carolina area and married to her high school sweetheart. She's a 30-something mom to 3 crazy yet loveable kids who keep her constantly on her toes. Books can be found in every room in the house and bags as well. Reading is done every moment she gets the chance and a typical afternoon of fun would often find her and the 3 kiddos at a local bookstore or library hunting for the next book. She's currently working towards her goal to one day owning a cafe/bookstore in a historic downtown area where it's all about the reader's experience...community, atmosphere and the love of books.BOOK SPONSORS

We had to break down and turn our heat on today, and I, for one, am not too happy about it. I miss summer!
